The Chinese Elm (Evergreen Elm) is a woody, semi-evergreen perennial tree. It is a moderate to fast growth habit up to 40-60ft with equal spread. It grows upright and resembles an inverted vase with an open canopy and umbrella top spread. Leaves are small, 1 to 3 inches long, elliptic to ovate leaves with serrate margin. Flowers are greenish yellow in late summer of year followed by single-winged samara that are greenish pink in late fall to winter. The reddish peeling bark is a distinctive feature of this tree.
