Bougainvillea are a common landscape accent plant in Mediterranean, subtropical, tropical, and hot desert climates around the world. Bougainvillea can be planted several ways – ground cover on highway embankments, garden trellised or building wall/fence covering. They are festive, colorful & come in many brilliant colors. You’ll see these in several yards and landscapes throughout the Phoenix area. Drought tolerant, fast growing. Evergreen. Bougainvillea freezes to the ground almost every winter in Phoenix when temperatures drop below 30oF, but will quickly recover in the spring with bountiful new growth. In contrast, bougainvillea thrives in the desert heat of summer.
